Social justice is the politically correct term used to sell socialism to a gullible and brainwashed American public. When the term was coined, socialism was still considered a social and political taboo, so Democrats needed another term to sell their dangerous ideology.
Coupled with the intentional socialist brainwashing of the public education system, socialism, like homosexuality, has come out of the taboo closet and is now socially and politically acceptable by so many.
One government department has reflected the socialist efforts more than other. The Department of Housing and Urban Development, HUD, has long been a clearing house for billions of taxpayer dollars to be used for far too many social justice programs.
Democrats have loved HUD, not only for its monetary handouts, but also because many of those programs receiving the handouts are not held totally accountable for how they handle these handouts. Democrats have tended to use HUD as a blank check agency and such an attitude often leads to corruption and the lining of the pockets of politicians as reported:
Liberals love HUD, because it hands out billions of dollars in the name of social justice. Not coincidentally, the money is often hard to account for, which is why it often ends up in the pocket of corrupt officials.
HUD has a long history of mismanagement and neglect. The agency’s financial statements are such a mess that the agency’s own Inspector General couldn’t complete an internal audit of the agency’s books. In fact, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a report in 2016, based on numerous HUD IG and GAO audits over a 15-year period, in which it reported that the agency failed to implement multiple financial accountability recommendations. Additionally, the agency seemingly ignored recommendations to dedicate staff and implement and enforce policies to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse.
This level of institutional corruption is the very essence of the swamp. And indeed, the swamp dwellers are fighting to keep things the way they were.
When President Trump nominated Dr. Ben Carson to be his HUD Secretary, Democrats when wild. They attacked Carson from any and all angles, but largely because Carson had a reputation of honesty and not tolerating corruption.
When Carson took over as Secretary of HUD, he began cleaning up some of the corruption and unaccountable spending.
Then in 2019, President Trump’s budget calls for the elimination of over $4 billion in HUD grants. In Trump’s budget proposal, he says that many of the grants and HUD programs should be handled at the state and local level and not the federal level. To defend Trump, the 10th Amendment states that the States will retain the majority of power and authority, except what it relinquishes to the federal government.
Trump’s budget proposal is frightening enough for socialist Democrats, but the actions of Carson seems to be what’s really scaring Democrats, as reported:
President Donald Trump’s new budget for Fiscal Year 2019 proposes to eliminate more than $4 billion in HUD grants, believing the money would be better managed, and more effective, if it originated at the state and local level. At the same time, Secretary Carson is implementing a culture of accountability and financial responsibility that the agency hasn’t experienced in years. This began with the hiring of a former partner with one of the big four accounting firms to serve as the agency’s chief financial officer. This vital role has not had a permanent occupant for more than a decade. The Secretary then directed the CFO to design and implement a transformation plan and lead an internal task force to combat waste, fraud, and abuse.
The secretary also set the agency on course to manage its existing resources in an accountable manner.
Holding HUD spending accountable, means that many corrupt politicians and socialist pet projects will no longer be given the blank checks they have grown accustomed to.
Carson is clearing up the HUD swamp and that is troubling to socialist Democrats and sending some of them scurrying like rats fleeing a hungry cat.
